Blackberry Will Return Back in 2021 With a New Smartphone

OnwardMobility has announced the licensing of the BlackBerry brand and intellectual property. The first BlackBerry-branded device is slated to launch in 2021.

OnwardMobility CEO Peter Franklin said he sees a need for a flagship BlackBerry smartphone with 5G support and a physical keyboard. The device will be sold in the US and Europe, no other details are available.

Foxconn and its smartphone subsidiary FIH Mobile will also participate in the production.

In February 2020, the Chinese company TCL, at that time owning the BlackBerry brand, announced the termination of BlackBerry operations at the end of August.

BlackBerry is known as a manufacturer of business-oriented mobile devices. It was especially popular in the 2000s, but could not compete with smartphones with touch screens.
